Startup oasis is a coliving concept developed in the heart of Cebu City, Philippines. It is a place where the client and developers live and work together, where the client bring their startup ideas which are made concrete by the website developers and app developers.

In this article we introduce the web team of Startup Oasis and asked them a few questions to which they shared their experience with the clients to give you some insight into client-web developer relationship.

Maria Theresa “Madz” Madrid has been working for Startup Oasis since 2013. She worked on several projects and currently working with Dada Sport, an e-Commerce website and EvalDM, an evaluation app.

What do you feel is essential to ensure a project is completed efficiently?

“It is very important to have proper project requirements so that I know what the client expects of me to accomplish. Also, constant contact with the client is needed when asking for more details as you go along working on the project and for an organized development process.”

Was there a moment when you disagreed with a client’s feedback and, how did you handle it?

“It was not exactly a disagreement but a matter of possibility. It was when a client was asking for a certain functionality which was not possible with the tool we are using. I made my research to be able to explain to the client properly why it could not work with our tool and offered alternatives.”

Rhea Mae Ogates started with Startup Oasis a year and a half ago working on Singapore Medical Group Websites ever since.

When you are given a task to design a website, what are the first questions you ask?

“There are two major questions I ask in the beginning: ‘What is the project all about?’ and ‘What are the scope of my tasks in the given project?’”

How do you handle pressure and tight deadlines?

“I cannot deny the fact that even with prioritizing tasks and proper time management there are still tasks that comes up. When this happens, I spent some extra hours in the office to meet the deadline.”

“Joven Ban-as started working for Startup Oasis around the same time as Rhea. He is currently handling Careplus, an e-Commerce website for Vietnamese clinics.

When you are given a task to design a website, what are the first questions you ask?

“As a web developer, I ask the client what will be the scope and limitation of the website that needs to be observed. It is also very important that you ask in the beginning what are the main features to be implemented.”

What do you feel is essential to ensure a project is completed efficiently?

“For me, this would be having constant communication with the client. Also, maintaining a great teamwork for project support and having the passion for the work are the essential things needed for a successful outcome.”

Vere Diongson has been with Startup Oasis for almost a year now. He is currently working with Madz for Dada Sport./p>

What challenges have you faced in Startup Oasis and how did you cope with it?

“The most challenging project I have encountered is engagement with data science where there is a need to have a better knowledge of Statistics and Calculus. I cope with this through spending some extra time to read and practice. I used to joke that it is not only the students who do homework, I do too.”

How do you handle pressure and tight deadlines?

“We are normally pressured when things don’t go as they should be and when urgent things pop up that needs to be done in a hurry. What I do is that I spend extra time to go through things to organize them, prioritizing tasks, and planning ahead.”

Rio Del Pamaong is a new addition to the growing team of Startup Oasis. He is currently working on Inetis desktop application.

When you are given a task to design a website, what are the first questions you ask?

“Aside from the questions that my teammates have given, I think another important question to ask is who will be the target market of the website.”

What do you feel is essential to ensure a project is completed efficiently?

“I understand that being new would mean that I have to put in extra time to finish a project and make sure that I am able to do the most and the best that I can.”

Cleo Credo is also a new addition to the team. She is currently working with Rio on Inetis PRO.

When you are given a task to design a website, what are the first questions you ask?

“The first things that come to my mind are: what are the features to be implemented, what kinds of data are involved and how big and complex the database would be.”

What do you feel is essential to ensure a project is completed efficiently?

“I think client communication and team work is needed to deliver a project efficiently. You should be able to communicate with the client to make sure that their requirements and expectations are met. This is also a way for you to clarify things if you don’t understand or you are confused about the project. Team work is absolutely needed since many heads are always better than one. It’s always good to ask help from your team mates when you get stuck or ask ways to make your code more efficient.”

Joseph Simon Q.Rojo is also a new member of the Startup Oasis team. He is currently working in the VivaCity project.

What challenges have you faced in Startup Oasis and how did you cope with it?

“When I get stuck on a problem or can’t figure out a way to implement something even after doing a lot of research online, I immediately ask for help from my colleagues to get additional insights. If they’re not familiar with the technology stack that we’re using, I ask assistance directly from the client. This way, they become aware of the problem I’m facing an provide a solution or an alternative to get around it.”

What do you feel is essential to ensure a project is completed efficiently?

“Since coding is takes time and thus expensive, I always make sure that the requirements are laid out and finalized. This way, I can do planning, writing pseudo code and finally get into coding.”
