Travel: 10 Things to do for a Travelpreneur in Cebu

Startup oasis is a co-living concept developed in the heart of Cebu City, Philippines. It is a place where the client and developers live and work together, where the client bring their start-up ideas which are made concrete by the website developers and app developers.

Working and traveling mean opposite things for most people, you just cannot be in the two different places at once, always one or the other. But, the travelpreneurs got it all figured out. They have made their businesses profitable and manageable no matter their location in the world. So what is left for them to do? Here are a few suggestions we have made for the travelpreneurs currently in Cebu City while they wait for their sunburns to heal:

Learn to cook Filipino food and eat it too!

You’ve tried adobo? Cool! But do you know how to make it? In this activity, we will let Ate, take you to the market to buy ingredients, and teach you how to cook her specialty dish. You can even share this with the Start-up Oasis team and boast to them how well you cooked their adobo for them!

Hiking and Camping

Faced that screen too long? Go see the outdoors! Walk to Osmena Peak and spend the night there. You may even traverse to Kawasan falls the next day and let the cool flow of the river wash off the tiredness from your bones.

Attend a TechTalk Meetup

Hey, it’s a working trip still so build that personal and business network of yours. There are always scheduled TechTalk Meetups around the area so be sure to check it out so you don’t miss anything and anyone.

Take your meeting to an artsy level

Visit Qube Art Gallery in Crossroads and marvel at some of the works of a featured local artist. You can have a business lunch or coffee around the area as Crossroads is filled with great cafes and restaurants. You can even, proceed to A Space, the hippest co-working space in Cebu, to work on the result of your meeting.

Spend your day in a FabLab

FabLab is short for Fabrication Laboratory where operational, technical, financial, educational, and logistical assistance are available beyond what’s normally within one lab. Visit the one in UP Cebu and see what cool things you can make there.

Learn to cook lechon

Lechon is a whole roasted pig cooked over coal for at least 4 hours. Yes, this is the ultimate bragging rights you can get out of Cebu. Everyone has tried lechon and yes it’s good. But why stop there? Invite your whole team to a lechon party that you helped make yourself! It’s a great way to bond and get to know your team outside of work.

Island hopping

This is the actually the reason why you chose to be in Cebu, to see different paradise-like islands. There are quite a few options for this but whichever one you choose, don’t forget to bring lechon manok (roasted whole chicken), puso (hanging rice) and Red Horse (popular local beer). A Filipino Island hopping is not complete without these.

Chasing waterfalls

At this point, you might have already seen a few islands and that sunburn looks like it needs a little bit more time. Take a trip to the South of Cebu and check out 3 famous waterfalls: Tumalog Falls in Oslob, Inambakan Falls in Ginatilan, and Dao Falls in Samboan.

Join a Toastmasters Club

Toastmasters International is a leader in developing leadership and communication. There is a number of Toastmasters Club in Cebu and you can search one near you. It’s a good way to meet like-minded people and grow that professional (and most probably personal) circle of yours.

Enjoy a tropical cocktail in a Beach resort in Mactan

Your sunburn might have already healed and it’s time for that cocktail by the beach. Lucky you, you don’t have to go any further, just cross the Mactan bridge and choose from an assortment of beach resort there. If you are overwhelmed with choices, Maribago Blue Waters is our favourite.
